Jus-Rol pastry stinks!

I usually make my own shortcrust, but have been very pushed for time this week, so I bought Jus-Rol ready rolled sheets as they were on offer. Omg, they smell absolutely rancid - like sour milk or cheese Sad The reviews on Ocado suggest I'm not alone in thinking this - sounds as if they've changed the recipe and not for the better.

My mince pies are in the oven anyway, but DD (5) has just come into the kitchen and asked "what's that sick smell?" Do I guess the pastry's not going to be much better cooked than raw Grin.

So... anyone got any better suggestions for ready-made shortcrust pastry (ideally all butter - this vile stuff is also made with palm oil, I've just noticed)? Or should I just make my own as usual?

Just make your own you don't want to b poorly over Xmas.

I bought some tesco own brand puff pastry at the beginning of Dec and it was mouldy with a week left on it date wise.

The reviews also suggested that this pastry shrinks an awful lot, and they're certainly right: I left a 1cm excess all round the each tart and by the time they were cooked, the pastry had shrunk to the perfect size Hmm.

Yes, it does stink! I bought some to make some dairy free mince pies for a friend. It's okay when it's cooked (bland, inoffensive), it's just in its raw state it smells a bit like vomit.

Glad it's not just me who thinks it reeks! Yes, the mince pies tasted ok (as in, not vomity), but the pastry was extremely bland and tasted of ... nothing. So it's back to homemade, all-butter shortcrust from now on!
