Hi, I've got a whole salmon in the freezer ready for Boxing Day. How long will it take to defrost in the fridge, should I take it out now?

I would just defrost it overnight in the fridge if possible. So before you go to bed the night before you need it.

Thanks! Bit this is a whole salmon- not filtered, just gutted. I reckon it will take a lot longer to defrost that overnight... or maybe not?

If you've room in the fridge, take it out of the freezer today to be on the safe side. It will be fine in the fridge. Fish defrosts more quickly than meat, but not worth the stress of it not being defrosted in time.

Thanks! I've taken it out and put it in a very cold fridge drawer, which is supposed to keep food around 0 degrees. It shouldn't defrost much at all today but it will raise it's temperature a little. Then I'll put it in a regular fridge shelf before I go go bed. I hope that's ok...

It'll be fine - it's not going to go off.
