What's your favourite soup?

I love soup, especially in this weather. I make batches of various soups but my stock is running low so making more after Christmas.

I'll be making leek and potato, cream of tomato, cream of chicken, and lentil and bacon.

For inspiration, what's your favourite soup on a cold winter's day?

My granny used to make a chicken and vegetable broth and add either rice or pearl barley. Was lovely.

I also used to make a chicken and vegetable broth which was lovely. Haven't done it for ages. Yum. Very good for you (something to do with enzymes, can't remember details),

London Particular - Split pea and ham.

Lentil is my absolute favourite, with home made ham stock.

Lentil with ham stock is lovely.

I also like chickpea and carrot, French onion, and leek and potato.

Leek and potato. With plenty of marjoram and parsley. Oh yes.

Proper cream of tomato

Made with fresh tomatoes. A real faff but divine

Lentil, tomato and chilli. Chunky vegetable and lentil with lots of parsley.

I make a lovely garlicky spicy lentil soup - basically it's just extra runny tarka dhal.

I also do a lovely carrot, sweet potato and creamed coconut soup.

DD would eat soup every day if she could.

A mushroom soup I found on Pinterest. Also green split pea soup with chopped smoked ham.

All these sound amazing. Recipes please!

avgolemono soup - always have a christmas version made with the turkey carcass. Recipe handed down from my cypriot grandmother

Oh gosh yes, proper French onion with the big cotton and truckloads of melted cheese on top.

I do a smoked haddock chowder which is an Anthony Worrall Thompson recipe, loved by me and the nearly grown up dc.
I also love Delia's lentil soup which has smoked streaky bacon in it (maybe a similar flavour effect to ham stock?).

I’d forgotten about Cullen Skink, a most unlikely soup but awesome and so so warming and heartening, perfect cold weather food

This Spicy butternut squash soup is a amazing.

Potato as a base, cauliflower broccoli and carrots cooked up then blended. Garlic and cream, prawns and salmon chucked in then just stir for five minutes.

Borscht is a winter favourite here, its colour will cheer up any gloomy winter day.

The Hairy Bikers have a nice recipe for it, though I never put tomatoes in borscht on the basis that they wouldn't have been available in Poland during the winter!

Homemade tomato & roasted red pepper is so yummy. My mam used to make soup with homemade ham stock, soaked red lentils and vegetables. I loved it but have never been able to replicate it.

Broccoli & Stilton

Cullen skink - the daddy of all soups.

All kinds of chowder: clam, corn, smoked haddock, fish, mixed shellfish. I even had a crab chowder once which was amazing but so incredibly rich.
