I know it's nowhere near as popular as a slow cooker or a bread machine but I have finally done it, after years of craving - I have bought a deep fat fryer and now I need to make all those lovely foods that visit me in my dreams.
So far we tried Felicity Cloake's perfect sweet potato fries and served them with some garlic mayo - they were amazing, crunchy, sweet garlicky - so I'm thinking what next?

Battered cod/white fish
Triple cooked chips
Falafel
Maybe fried dough liberally sprinkled with icing sugar and cinnamon \

Any other things I really need to make?

Chicken katsu - is our latest obsession! But the best thing ever has been sweet potato fries, they are a revelation!

Pineapple fritters. Pineapple rings in batter. Fruit and frying. Who could ask for more?

PinkOboe · 22/12/2018 16:43

Ah I’ve now read the thread and seen things have moved on from 1973

bilbodog · 22/12/2018 17:14

Nigellas coconut shrimp - amazing

TheProvincialLady · 22/12/2018 17:15

Onion bhajis

I second fruit fritters! I tried to make banana fritters in the airfryer and while the coating didn't really work, the gooey, sticky filling was scrumptious.

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/12/2018 18:16

Serve the fruit fritters with sriracha sauce, trust me.

DavetheCat2001 · 22/12/2018 18:24

Calamari of course!

Tempura prawns.

User5trillion · 22/12/2018 18:29

PickAChew · 22/12/2018 18:35

Home made samosas.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/12/2018 19:44

I use mine for churros, croquetas, calamari, tempura, onion bhaji, pakora, doughnuts, homemade fries and fat chips, fried chicken, buffalo wings, whitebait, battered fish, onion rings, scotch eggs and fritters.

There's probably more but that's what comes to mind. I love it!

Probably gets used once a week.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/12/2018 19:46

Ah yes, soft-shell crab too.

Boredofthecommute · 22/12/2018 19:52

Recently picked one up too but nothing is going crispy Confused what’s the best oil to use??

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/12/2018 19:53

Churros? Either Lidl or Aldi do frozen churros. I know because I have them on my freezer. Sadly, I don’t have a deep fat fryer.Xmas Sad

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 21:49

churros CANNOT be frozen

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/12/2018 21:54

churros CANNOT be frozen

I think they are the raw extruded mix, which is why they are still in my freezer.

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 22:01

Hmmm, once you've had the real thing straight out of a spanish food truck you'll never go near the freezer again ;-)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/12/2018 22:06

Ta1kinpeace couldn’t agree more! Xmas Grin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/12/2018 22:07

Bored, sounds like your oil isn't hot enough, what temperature are you using?

I use groundnut sunflower.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2018 22:09

Elderflower fritters.

Gammeldragz · 22/12/2018 22:10

Taco shells. Fold mini wraps in half and deep fry, using tongs to hold in shape. You'll never use boxed ones again.
