What's currently in your fridge?

We had a new kitchen recently and have gone from a tiny single fridge freezer with broken shelves to a massive American one.

We never seem to be able to have much in it!

We still are in the habit of shopping every few days and often have nothing in the house to eat which drives me mad.

But I don't want a fridge full of food that just gets chucked.

So what's in yours?

Top shelf: various cold meats and cheeses, guacamole and hummus, leftover roast salmon from last night

Middle shelf, yogurt, kefir, little yeos fromage frais, creme fraiche, sour cream, ready made soups, toddler ready meals (little dish fish pie)

Bottom shelf: cans of tonic water, bottle of white wine, bottle of pink lemonade, box of eggs, container of homemade chicken stock

Drawers: clementines, tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, peppers, apples, parsnips, cauliflower, sausages, chicken thighs, minced beef, bacon

Doors: various jars of chutney and relish, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, milk, butter

I think that's about it! I went shopping the other day so we're well-stocked. We have an American style fridge freezer too and I absolutely love it!

churchmouse84 · 14/12/2018 00:02

This is excellent.

We have about 8 chilli sauces and countless mustards.

I need to go a bigger shop so we always have a couple of meals in there.

I also need to check use by dates etc. I'm sure use by dates on pizza etc must be quite long.

Just me with nail varnish, eye cream and aloe vera in the fridge then...?

stinkypoo · 14/12/2018 01:56

Eggs shouldn't be in the fridge.

BusterGonad · 14/12/2018 01:58

Blondie I used to keep my nail polish in the fridge, but apparently it shouldn't be in there! I know, crazy.

MrsTerryPratcett · 14/12/2018 02:01

Gin and milk.

I'm in a hotel at the moment.

easielouisie · 14/12/2018 02:26

4 types of mustard, ketchup, brown sauce, mint sauce, mayo, horseradish sauce, 2 types of soy sauce.
1 litre of milk.
A ham (for Christmas)
Maple syrup.
Carrots, onions, salad stuff.
Grapes, oranges.
Several cheeses.
Marg, butter
Juice & beer.
Eggs
Think that is about it.

WereYouHareWhenIWasFox · 14/12/2018 04:40

Keeping nail polish in the fridge does not extend the shelf life though . I do keep 35 mm film in there though . Like eggs, tomatoes should also not be kept in the fridge.

Middlrm · 14/12/2018 04:59

I create a meal plan for the week and then shop to fit that.
I have puff pastry ( to go with sausage meat in freezer for my chests homemade sausage rolls for Christmas)
Salad ( lettuce tomatoes peppers cucumber and red onion ) enough for 2 dinners to go with burgers and chicken and Cajun spice mix I have in the freezer

I have carrots / courgette / jacket potatoes for med veg dinner and jacket pots and chicken dish

The list goes on I also have yogurt/ satsumas / cookie dough for snakes / desserts

Sausage rolls ready made ( we have a new born and grab and go sometimes is the only way we eat)

Also have ketchup/ brown sauce / salsa/ relishes / pickles / cheese/ butter / jam / mint sauce / apple sauce as staple condiments bits you add to a dish to make it extra special or something you pop on toast.

MsLToe · 14/12/2018 05:02

I think it’s abdolutely fine to keep both eggs and tomatoes in the fridge as it prolongs their shelf life.

However, both should be removed a few hours before use to bring them to room temp to get the best from them.

ImogenTubbs · 14/12/2018 05:46
