Would you put beef stew with that sweet potato cream and sage thingy

Just that really. Would do other options too - batch of roasties and roast carrots and parsnips but catering for a crowd so want to provide options.

Hopeful bump

What is the thingy recipe?

CoperCabana · 13/12/2018 07:37

Oh it is a Mumsnet recipe in Top Bananas. Sliced sweet potato, cream and sage, baked in the oven. Can’t work out if it will be too ‘sloppy’ alongside beef casserole. Any thoughts appreciated!

I wouldn't, the gravy and cream sauce wouldn't work together.

CoperCabana · 13/12/2018 07:48

Hmmm. That was my concern. I hate potatoes in stew. Have you got any ideas for a ‘naice’ potato dish to go with? I was going to do roasties. Guess I could do sweet pot wedges?

I'd do mash as one of the options, a lot of people like that with stew.

CoperCabana · 13/12/2018 07:52

How about if I did baked mash with a crisp cheesy top or is that too much flavour? Me and my kids are not huge mash fans.

I do think cheese goes well with beef stew, you could also add some spring onion or chives.

MummytoCSJH · 13/12/2018 08:07

The baked mash sounds amazing. We'd eat mash every day if I could be bothered Grin

awkwardturtle · 13/12/2018 08:14

What about hasselback potatoes. They work well with stews.

BillywigSting · 13/12/2018 08:17

Mash sounds like a good option.

Those mini bread rolls you bake at home are always a winner here too

How about some new potatoes for those who like a milder flavoured side?

BeanBagLady · 13/12/2018 08:33

Mash, new potatoes, maybe hassle back.
I don’t really think roast potatoes go that well with stew.

Crusty bread or dumplings?

MrsPatmore · 13/12/2018 08:41

That sounds like sweet potato dauphinoise? It's delicious and would be lovely with beef stew - the cream absorbs onto the potato so it's not too sloppy. Add a bit of garlic too and seasoning.

Oh gosh - lots of lovely ideas. Thanks all - will have a further ponder!
