Sugar cookie recipe

Hi everyone.

I have just brought some cookie cutters online and really want to have a go at making some sugar cookies for Christmas.

They seem to be an 'American thing' so I'm finding a UK recipe hard to come by. (Using grams rather than cups etc). And the UK recipes I do find are very different so I have no idea where to start. I have baked chocolate cookies once and they were a disaster 🙈.

So does anyone have a fool proof sugar cookie recipe in UK measurements, the dough doesn't lose shape when baked and don't break when iced?

I need to watch this thread too. I'm an avid baker and can whip up some amazing chic chip cookies and my cupcakes are second to none but my sugar cookies are..... bleh. They're just Meh. Boring. Nothing WOW about them at all.

She found an old Marguerite Patten cookbook - I'll let you know if it works!

You could still use cups. I have a convreri whch says 1 cup = 8oz, which is pretty easy to calculate 1/2, 1/4 etc.

Jux you cant convert cups like that. One cup of flour doesn't weigh the same as a cup of sugar.

Not sugar cookies, but my go to for cut out biscuits is 321 biscuits - cream 100g butter with 50g of sugar. Mix with 150 g plain flour (plus some cocoa or ginger or other flavour). Roll and cut. About 10 mins at 180C.

1cup is 240ml, so if you’ve got a measuring jug you’re good to go.
