Dhal without onion?

For various reasons, I'm going to struggle to get to the shops today. I was thinking of doing a dhal for dinner but we have no fresh vegetables... not even an onion. I have dry lentils (obviously), tinned tomatoes, tinned carrot, frozen peppers and spinach, plus cumin, turmeric, garam masala, etc.
Will this make an acceptable meal or will it just be a bit grim? The tinned carrots in particular are putting me off but I feel like we need the vegetables.

Leave the carrot out Envy

Do you have garlic? If so, then lentils, toms, garlic and spinach and maybe some of the peppers would be ok.

I quite often leave onions out of dhal because my ds prefers it that way. It still tastes good.
If you're using the tarka dhal method then just fry the garlic and some ginger and add it at the end

Okay so I had a terrible idea brainwave and blended up my icky tinned carrots (water included) with five pickled onions. I also had frozen ginger and garlic. It's all in the slow cooker now, and smelling delicious, so I reckon it will be fine, if slightly unconventional.
