Help with birthday cake in the shape of a guitar?

Ds 2 next week is dangerously obsessed with musical instruments, but especially guitars.

I'd love to make him a guitar birthday cake. Any ideas how? Is it just a question of shoving two round sponges together??

Any cake making sites out there or sugarcraft experts?

Twiglett - I've never heard of the embossing stuff, but they look promising - are they pretty straightforward for a novice to use? What else would I need?

Tempting, but I'd hate to mess it up - the whole icing thing looks a bit professional to me. I have a week to get this sorted. WIll google on cake tins for now

Beetroot - that's exactly what I was originally thinking of!

Did your dh use that ready made roll out icing or just icing sugar spreading icing?

I'm all excited now - ds will spontaneously combust if I get this right

A picture would be great if possible.

Made it on Tuesday night and it worked! Ready roll icing is fab and I will now buy shares in it.

Ds loved it and I'm a smug mummy
