Cheap dishes that seem more 'expensive'

I'm running out of inspiration on a tight budget. I want to add a few dishes that don't make me baulk at the ingredient cost.

For example one my of recipes is a crab linguine using tinned crab and costs about 90p a portion..

Anyone got a favourite they can share?

Just been reading the skint foodie blog someone linked to. What happened to him? Haven't got as far as the recipes because his story is so sad. He stopped posting in 2014...

Very similar to those already

I just looked it up too myotherprofile. I hope he stopped posting because his life took an upturn, maybe he did write that book and become successful. I hope so anyway.

@WereYouHareWhenIWasFox yes I hope so too although I couldn't find a book Confused

Oh I hope someone can come on with some good news about him! He managed to keep his anonymity, not like the fame-hungry other one! 😂

True!

A really indulgent treat for us is a pudding, as we so rarely have one, and my absolute favourite is pancakes with lemon and sugar. So simple, but absolutely gorgeous (and easy, as I always have a bottle of squeezed lemon juice in the fridge).

My killer pork pasta

Onion celery carrot
Mince pork
Tomato purée
Stock
Makes this:

Also chicken stock pasta

Literally pasta
Stock cube (I do use Kallo but it's a taste preference over quality)
Fresh black pepper
Peas
Parmesan

Everyone adores that

Mushroom risotto
Aubergine roasted with anchovies and quinoa in a bowl with parsley

Cacio e pepe, just three ingredients, pepper, pecorino and pasta.

Stracciatella soup, the best thing to make with home made chicken stock.

An alternative to burger in a bun... Gently fried whole portobello mushrooms, you can add onion, cheese, garlic butter etc.

You could invest in a small bottle of truffle oil, add a splash to finish any mushroom dish to intensify the mushroom flavour.
