Hello, I would like to buy my mother some cookbooks for Christmas. unfortunately she is allergic to tomatoes and red meat (random) and any cookbooks she's normally given contain almost all recipes containing one or the other. Has anyone got any recommendations for something which may have more choice for her? Obviously there will be some unsuitable but a few would be good! Thanks in advance

Simon Hopkinson's The Good Cook is excellent and I don't think too heavy on meat or tomatoes. The sticky Toffee Pudding is perfection.

What about Hugh F-W's VEG Everyday, from memory there are few meat dishes mentioned, and he's not dependant on tomatoes either.
If you go to Amazon website, you can often check out the contents of the book with their "Look inside" feature, to give you an idea if it would be suitable or not.

Another vote for HFW Veg Everyday. My favourite recipe book!

All vegetarian recipes and not many with tomatoes.

The Morito cookbook. Well worth a look.

Nigella How to Eat and Nigel Slater's books spring to mind as more traditional British (more cream/cheese/stock based rather than tomatoes), so avoiding anything leaning Mediterranean. But both do have some recipes with tomatoes.

How about a Chinese or Japanese one? Almost no tomatoes, lots of veg! I can highly recommend Fuschia Dunlop Every Grain of Rice which is chinese home cooking.

Hairy bikers did a book on chicken and egg book. All around chicken and eggs funnily enough Grin we use it fairly often. There are probably recipes with tomato but i can really remember. Far more without.

Thanks a lot everyone, I've decided to go with the hairy bikers and hfw for now and keep the others in reserve!
