Being buying Tesco's tzatziki for a while. Really like it. Does anyone have a recipe. And is a homemade version so much more.. better - that it is worth the effort ?

It's just yoghurt, garlic, lemon and cucumber

Is it that simple rebelmum ? Is it worth making ?

I make mine like that and a good tip is to finely grate the cucumber rather than chop it. I also like mine with a LOT of garlic. It is so much nicer than the bought stuff.

Thank you mrsmalumbas - can you give me a rough idea of proportions - and it is very important to buy a high quality yoghurt ?

olive oil as well

One tub of greek yogurt (get TOTAL full fat if you can - I know tescos have it)

Grate 1/2 - 3/4 of a cucumber and strain it. Best way to do this is put it in a muslin cloth and really squeeze all the liquid out.

Crush some cloves of garlic. (I put in 3 cloves because i like it garlicy)

Mix these up, add a little salt, dribble of olive oil. Cover and put in fridge preferably overnight.

Some people put in lemon juice. I don't but try both ways and see what you prefer.

Enjoy!!!

i also add chopped fresh mint and little black pepper in mine and always use greek yoghurt as others are too runny. i like bits of cucumber in mine so i remove the skin and middle bit then chop fairly small. once youve tried it you'll find your favourite way, good luck.

oh thankyou all. And yes, I was wondering about the mint - I will have to experiment.
