Lovely wintery puddings that aren't crumble

I always do a pudding for Sunday dinner and I've run out of wintery ideas. I know there's pie, but we're not really fans. DC don't like rice pudding. They like crumble / cobbler, but I'd like to branch out!

Preferably fruit based and not too cakey, although I will consider other options. I found a cherry bakewell pudding recipe without the crust, so that might be an option.

My mum made something like www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/pastry/the-fastest-blackberry-and-apple-tart last week, although the pastry was a bit frangipani-y.

Lemon meringue pie, eaten warm - delicious.

These look nice too from the same website

Queen of puddings, apple turnover, berry clafoutis are all quick - BBC good food site will have lots too. Or stewed rhubarb and custard, if your DCs like it.

Clafoutis! Genius!

I love puddings! Regulars for us are lemon delicious (it’s a self saucing lemon pudding), apple hat, bread and butter pudding, treacle sponge, self saucing chocolate pudding (allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/398/self-saucing-chocolate-pudding.aspx).
See if you can pick up a copy on abe books of the 70s cookbook “cordon bleu- winter puddings”. So much good stuff, it has a recipe for pear and ginger pudding that is amazing! This is close, but the topping in my book has more sugar. It’s so sticky and dark.

Marmalade sponge. Yum

SoftBlocks · 22/11/2018 17:53

BAked apples with marzipan or sultanas and brown sugar.

Sticky toffee pudding has dates in it and is gorgeous.

Apple sponge with custard
Plum flapjack (just put half the flapjack mix on the bottom of the tin, some chopped up fresh or tinned plums then the other half of the flapjack and bake
Tinned plums heated up with hot custard
Hot trifle - fruit or jam at the bottom, custard and then meringue on top and bake
Cherry pie

Not really a pudding but maybe a bit different and delish - crepes Suzette

Make the kids then make yours boozy Smile

Tarte tatin. Simple and delicious!

MsSquiz · 22/11/2018 18:59

Eve's pudding is our family favourite. Especially when you get the crispy well done edges Smile

Annandale · 22/11/2018 19:00

Winter fruit salad - soak dried apricots and sultanas in juice, add bottled plums, sliced tinned pears or any other tinned and preserved fruit. Add sliced bananas. Nice with yogurt.

This is always a hit in our house www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/recipes/9596191/Pain-au-chocolat-bread-and-butter-pudding-recipe.html

Sorry, I meant to link to the Nigella version so I can't vouch for that recipe! But can recommend some orange zest to spruce it up a bit!

GimbleInTheWabe · 22/11/2018 20:38

How about poached pears with a crumble side served with double cream? Or poached plums, apples etc. Toast the crumble mix separately and sprinkle on top- yum!

Also came on to say sticky toffee pudding. You could always make it more dense with fruit and more chunky.

Tarte tatin?

Can I come Grin

Stanislas · 22/11/2018 20:59

I second clafoutis and can use tinned cherries. Creme caramel and bread and butter pud with fruit bread. Peasant girl with a veil to use up the autumn apples. Self saucing lemon or orange pud. Baked spiced plums and baked pears with ginger syrup from a jar of crystallised ginger. Baked cheesecake.

AuLoinSontVontLesNuages · 22/11/2018 21:01

Poached pears in red wine or apple juice with spices - served with cream or marscapone
