DD fancies a 'cheese' cake for her birthday

The rest of us want cake so I am buying both!!

Can anyone reccomend a small 'cheese' cake without stilton? Or can I build one somehow?

Aarrgghh & I am too late for the one at Tesco as her party is on Sunday!

It should be quite straightforward to build one I would have thought? Then you've got the freedom to pick exactly the cheeses you want. On a nice platter, decorate with tumbling grapes/figs/fruits, it will look lovely.

Which supermarket does a lot of little round cheeses? I can see me going round all of them with a tape measure!!

& I have left it too late to get a nice cake from M&S too

Go to your local cheese shop. Choose while you can see them. Avoid stilton.
probably too risky to do online as the diameters aren't generally published and I'm presuming you don't want anything as big as a wedding cake?

How about a ring of the xmassy cheese trucklers then a cooked camembert in the middle with a selection of crusty breads to dunk?

and you can buy a nice cake off the shelf in some waitrose.

Sainsbury's deli counter has lots of round cheeses. Or you could use 4 x similar sized "triangle" cheeses put together to make a circle. Not Laughing Cow though...

Getting a cheddar will be tricky though...

DH is going to take me shopping later to see what we can find cheesewise

And she is away all-day on Sat so maybe I can make a cake

do you have a free half hour on fri you could awlasy do it in stages so have the cake cooked and cooled(even freeze if sooner) then decorate on the morning of or day before

She is away from Sat am to Sun at about 2 for a party at 4 so that should be enough time

Where are you based? We had a cheese "cake" for our wedding instead of a wedding cake and it went down very well. We used it as the centrepiece of our buffet (DIY ploughman's buffet) and bought our cheeses direct from a local dairy

Take a look at Pleesecakes on instagram. They do Cheesecakes and 'Cheese' cakes. You could get ideas to make your own. They look fab!

Have you got a Waitrose with a cheese counter? When I did one for DH’s birthday the staff were happy to help. They cut round slices off the cheddar and Stilton (IIRC) rather than the usual wedge shapes, and recommended some smaller round cheeses for the rest, i think a Camembert and a cute little goat cheese for the top.
