I proudly grated the black outside of nutmeg shell into my Christmas cake. Then I found the inside seed(too late!) Please tell me, am I not going to poison everyone? Only quarter of teaspoon. Help please

Not at all sure that was a nutmeg tbh. I’ve never seen one in a shell. Did you see the mace (Lacey coating) surrounding the nutmeg when you found it inside? If not - definitely not a nutmeg.

What did you use OP?
Nutmeg is a whole solid thing so if you grated it everything would have turned up small.
What did you use?! Smile

It will be fine if it was as in the picture above, you've used the mace, which has a stronger flavour than the nutmeg. Mace is usually sold separately.

You can get nutmegs in the shell from middle Eastern / Asian shops
You're supposed to crack the shell then use the seed. It won't kill anyone, just won't taste of nutmeg!

Like this - they don't have the mace in though, so must be different variety but taste the same
