So far I have
Spag bol
Chicken casserole
Beef casserole
Sheperds pie
Pasta
Roast chicken dinner
Savoury mince

I was hoping to plan two weeks at a time so I need more meals than that don't I ?

I am a crap cook, well not crap just don't really enjoy it.
Anything cheap, healthy and quick is great.

IMo thats not a real meal planner
you need to say what you are having with each meal ( veg wise) and also what are you doing witht her pasta?

mamerin · 27/08/2004 13:52

Is it for you or baby?
cous cous and salad.
gammon and baked potato

nutcracker · 27/08/2004 13:56

Oh right, well I know in my head what we have with each thing.

With casseroles we generally have mash and green beans too.
With the sheperds pie we would most likely have either chips and peas or mash and mixed veg.
Witht chicken roast we have roasts, mask and mixed veg.
Spag bol and pasta we have with salad and crusty bread.

The savoury mince i don't know as i haven't actually ever done it yet

Sounds quite boring doesn't it.

How do you do a meal planner then coddy ???

Something fishy perhaps?

A curry made with veg, handful of red lentils and Pataks Korma paste

notthecod · 27/08/2004 14:05

botchers!

iota · 27/08/2004 14:05

what about stir fry? Fish something e.g. fish and chips, fish pie, fish topped with welsh rabit, stroganoff, chicken korma, lamb kebabs(in lemon juice, olive oil, garlic) with pitta and dips, pizza and salad

am trying to think of not too spicy stuff

enid · 27/08/2004 14:06

more veggie stuff! Veg casserole, chunky veg soup, make shep pie with veg and lentils instead of meat?

notthecod · 27/08/2004 14:06

my popoint is that its bext tot try adn get allt he stuff you can in one swoopp to stop impulse buys

I have forgotten chillis and overn chips - there salways seomthing

SenoraPostrophe · 27/08/2004 14:06

do a large roast chicken (just rub some oil/butter and garlic on) - have hot with baked/roast spuds one day and then do a chicken stew and cold chick 'n' salad for the next two days (or freeze it and have chicken and salad twice). Maybe buy a jar of coronation sauce to make it more interesting.

White fish steamed with (fried)bacon and melted butter is always nice too.

notthecod · 27/08/2004 14:06

veggie? why?
she eats meat

enid · 27/08/2004 14:07

how do you stop all your meat going off if you buy enough for a week (from the botchers )

enid · 27/08/2004 14:07

because its good for you and cheap thats why, der.

risotto - we have chicken risotto with the leftovers from roast chicken, filling healthyish and cheap.

iota · 27/08/2004 14:24

Respect to you Coddy - taking 3 kids to Tesco - I took my 5 and 2 yr olds with me the other week and had a complete meltdown with them.
They were a total embarrassment e.g. - ds1 stole the trolley and, with ds2 clinging to the side, proceeded to spin it wildly down the aisles, pensioners scattering in all directions.

When I take either of them on their own, they are as good as gold and very helpful

nutcracker · 27/08/2004 14:58

All of those thing s sound great and I was thinking of doing something with fish and some stuff with just veg, but as I said I am a crap cook. Have always wanted to do a fish pie or something like that but wouldn't know where to start really.

When i do the roast chicken i was gonna buy the largest one i could and then use the leftovers for Dd's lunchboxes the next day. Have just ordered the lunch box book and some of those mini ice block thingies so I can give them stuff other than cheese sarnies.

Honestly the thought of cooking something new brings me out in a cold sweat.

Just to give you an idea of how crap I am, I once made a chocolate log in HE at school, only mine had to be turned nto a choclate cliff as it fell apart when i tried to roll it. I also made savoruy pancakes with a tablespoon instead of a tea spoon of salt. Think my HE teacher dispared of me

Nutty easiest fish pie:

  • poach fish (cod, plaicie etc) in milk in frying pan for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Flake into deep pie or casserole dish
  • pour over 1 tub of readymade cheese sauce (find in Tescos with the pasta)
  • top with mashed potato (as per shepherds pie)
  • grate a little cheese on top
  • bake in oven till heated through and browned - around 25 min, temp about 180

If you like broccoli you can put some in with theh fish, also you can use a mixture of smoked fish and or prawns as well if you like

When you get confident, make your own cheese sauce using the poached milk from the cooked fish

nutcracker · 27/08/2004 15:48

Oooh that sounds good Iota, and easy, just how I like it

I'll try that out next week i think.
