How to alkalize the body? Acidic lemon water or alkaline water?

There's loads of conflicting advice online about alkalizing the body. Loads of websites claim that foods which are acidic e.g. lemon water, (i.e. acidic pH water) will in fact alkalize the body.. ok fair enough BUT then plenty of websites and products sell water filters which will increase water pH (i.e. make the water more alkaline) as drinking alkaline water apparently alkalizes the body..??

So which is it?

Thank you

Don't bother with either. Your body is very good at keeping your blood pH very tightly controlled as otherwise you'd die.

Loads of conflicting advice because it’s all utter bollox.

welshweasel · 25/10/2018 18:25

Why the fuck? Such a pile of bollocks, please don’t listen!

witchcatcalledjohn · 25/10/2018 18:26

^ What they said.

JustOneCornettoooooo · 25/10/2018 18:26

Ditto!

redsummershoes · 25/10/2018 18:28

it's bollocks
your body will keep a steady ph inside no matter what you ingest.
if the ph inside you changes that's pretty dramatic and you would be very ill indeed.

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2018 18:45

Yep. Garbage.

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 18:47

As everyone else has said, it's total bollocks. Your body has to keep an incredibly tight rein on your PH otherwise you will literally drop down dead.

Trust me, I have had cancer treatment this year, I have read a lot about this Smile

acidic food can ruin your teeth. That much I do know.

witchcatcalledjohn · 25/10/2018 20:27

And the guy behind it was jailed in June 2017 for practicing medicine without a licence.

It's quackery of the highest order.

Agreed! Just trust your body to keep
you alive :)

BonnieF · 25/10/2018 20:40

Your body is very clever indeed. It knows what it’s doing. It has evolved over millions of years to have just the right pH levels to keep you alive. Your blood and saliva are slightly alkaline. Your stomach is strongly acidic. This is how it’s supposed to be.

GlacindaTheTroll · 25/10/2018 20:47

Acidity might make some difference to your teeth and gums. Possibly even your throat (bit hazy on that)

But beyond the stomach the pH of what you ingest is totally irrelevant. Unless you cannot produce stomach acid correctly. But you'd be very ill, and under the care of a gastro consultant if that were so.

wishingitwasfriday · 25/10/2018 21:18

My oh suffers from gout. More acidic foods make him have active episodes. Keeping his levels neutral stop the episodes.

chemenger · 26/10/2018 15:15

I thought with gout it was specific foods which can form uric acid that were the problem. The stomach sits at about pH 1 so nothing we eat is acidic relative to that.
