ice cream in the playground - am I being unreasonable?!

The pta at my dd's school are about to start selling ice-cream in the play ground after school. It is a primary school with a nursery attached. My dd is 3 - I can already imagine the tantrums when I say no.... (I struggle to get her to eat any dinner as it is.) I thought schools were supposed to be promoting health eating! Am I right to say I'm not happy with this? It's not even if they providing a fruit alternative. (aside from the fact that 50p is an extra thing to have to spend money on). rant over. What do you think - am I just being a boring parent or have I got a point?

I see what you mean but it's quite a sweet idea but yes it will get annoying having to say "no" every day.

Why not tell your DC's that they will be allowed to have one ice cream on a set day each week, if they're good - like a sweetie day.

If it's just for the summer I would be ok with it. There is only another 5 or 6 weeks left before they break up.

When I was at school we had an icecream van parked permenantly right outside the gate.

actually - the ice cream van comes around our cul-de-sac at lunch time at the weekend and tea time on week days. I must have whinged about how naughty he is doing it as my DD now always says - "oh, he's so naughty - he shouldn't come when we're having lunch".

I know how you feel, there's a bloody ice cream van parked outside our school, and it's there all year round. I'm sick of the tears when i refuse a mr whippy every day.

Bad idea. Our school has a blasted cake sale for the PTA every third week and it's hard enough to negotiate that, tbh.

Oh, very bad idea. Most ice cream is full o' shite these days anyway.

I would be a bit peeved .I would tell ds it's on fridays only or something.
