Reciepe a 5 yr old could make alone

My 5 yr old is desperate to cook something on his own, preferably a pudding or cake of some sort. He has £8 of his own money for ingredients. Any ideas?

He can cut up fruit etc fine but can't peel that well. Can measure with cups but not weighing.

One of those Betty Crocker cake mixes would probably work, my little sister counts them as cooking (ahem - she’s 26...) Would that do?

Banana bread? Simple processes and generally forgiving if not done exactly as per the recipe. And could jazz it up with dried fruit / chocolate chips / icing drizzle

What about a brownie or cheesecake mix? Cheesecake is good as doesn’t involve the oven and you can decorate the top!

Those cake things with chocolate and cornflakes or rice crispies, Blue Peter used to do them.

I have a 5 year old and am shuddering at the thought of this.. he he, I'm going to have to let go I know.

We made some potato scones (with instant smash) last weekend which were easy, or any scones as no whisking, melting etc.
Shortbread also very easy, but needs a light touch.
Ice cream cake ala Nigella. Whip cream and crumble in meringue, add choc chips. Maybe buy whipped cream if it exists. Then it would be very easy.

Trifle?

I'd recommend this:

Nothing too technical, just mash the bananas and mix it all together

Rocky road? Smash up biscuits. Add some dried fruit. Melt butter/chocolate in microwave. Mix and put in tin.

scones! ...if you use the lemonade recipe!

3 cups SR flour
1 cup lemonade
1 cup double cream

You can also add a handful of sultanas or chopped cherries and if you like them sweet then a quarter to a third of a cup of sugar in with the flour.

flour into bowl, add cream and lemonade, use a table knife to mix to a ball of dough, you might need a splidge more lemonade, but you want a ball of soft dough that is not wet

Press dough out onto a lightly floured board and cut out scones with cutter, and put them on a tray and into a hot oven for ten-fifteen minutes.

If he wants to spend all his money he could buy jam and clotted cream too and you can have a Cream Tea this afternoon!!

This dough also works for really quick cinnamon rolls....but you roll it out to a rectangle and then paint the dough with melted butter and sprinkle over cinnamon sugar. Roll it up like a swiss roll, and cut slices off, and again, onto a tray and into the oven for 15 minutes or so

Easy cake!!!
The 3-2-1 cake
My grandma and I made it lots
You need to buy a pack of 125 g yogurts and that is your measuring device

You can even get her to decorate and keep the pots for other times

You can decorate with fruit 😀

delilahbucket · 20/10/2018 09:56

Does it need to be baking? At that age my ds loved making pizza. Either with pitta bases or just a shop bought base.

What about cookies - we always find them really simple as there's no need to roll and cut the dough out
