Vegan rice crispies treats fail. Help!

This isn't even proper baking and I've failed at it! I've left them in the fridge for 2 hours and they are still a wet crumbly mess.

Recipe was:

1tbsp sugar
4 tbsp golden syrup
1 tbsp stork

Boil for 1-2 mins

Add to 150g Rice Krispies and stir

Squash down into a baking tray

Fridge for 20 mins (I actually left them more like 2 hours now as they are still crumbling)

Does the vegan version just not work? I'm trying hard to make a egg and dairy free quick thing for a bake sale.

Did you boil the storm and syrup for a few minutes? For that recipe to hold together you have to sort of make a toffee which hardens a bit when it cools, allowing the cakes to hold together.

Ah, it kind of simmered away but I was worried about it burning as I've never boiled sugar before. Should I have boiled it for longer do you think?

Take 2... used jam sugar this time, 3 tbsp instead of 1, and boiled for 3 mins. It worked! They taste really sickly sweet but at least they are solid
