I’ve used pudding rice gas mark 2/3 and it’s been on for over an hour. I’ve just checked and have it a stir and the rice isn’t cooking. Help!!!

It'll take longer on such a low heat, especially if you used cold milk/cream. Either turn it up a bit or give it more time. ☺

Turn it up to 5, your oven isn't hot enough to cook it.

Following to see the advice. I don't know if there's anything you can do but give it more time. Make sure it doesn't go dry by stirring in extra milk/cream as needed?! Last time i tried to do homemade rice pudding it took over 2 hours despite me following a recipe!

Oh ok I followed the instructions on the packet. At least it’s not burnt 😬😂

When I do rice pudding in the oven rather than the hob it does take a good couple of hours, maybe more depending on the heat setting. I find it much easier to cook in a pan now

If you have a slow cooker try it in that next time. 5 hours on low and it's divine!

You MUST grate nutmeg on the top though Grin

I think DH cooks ours for about three hours at Gas 2/3.

My mum used to make it all the time so trying to relive my childhood comfort food!! It’s started cooking but now seems like it’s not enough and I have lots of milk 😩😩. Do you keep it covered?? I think I may need to stick to the tin one 😬

I don't cover mine because I love the burnt skin that forms on top

Rockbird · 14/10/2018 19:57

Can anyone recommend a slow cooker rice pudding recipe please?

Dickorydockwhatthe · 14/10/2018 20:04

I’m definitely using the slow cooker next time!! It’s taking all day to cook and I’m still not sure if it’s right 😩

I use slow cooker whenever I'm cooking pudding. It has the best result!

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 18/10/2018 10:52

My mum always cooks it in the microwave first for 10 mins and then puts it in the oven for about 45mins so it doesn’t take as long. We always leave it uncovered and fight over the burnt skin! Delicious
