The worse children's menu ever!

Background
My mum used to have a favourite cafe. It was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. They were brilliant for kids food as well (had kids menu plus you could create own meal from adult menu - they were very flexible). All food cooked from scratch on the premises etc very welcoming and lovely staff.

Then it got taken over.

They changed the menus.

They will not do small portions of the normal meals for kids.

They will not provide extra plate/knife and fork for them to have some of yours.

They ave a children's menu with one item on.

Do you want to know what it is?

Fishfinger sandwich

ooh go on...

hellish · 11/06/2007 17:04

no way, that's not a proper meal

TheArmadillo · 11/06/2007 17:04

Its true.

Apparently the woman now running says all kids love 'em and it stops food being wasted.

ooh, i loved those before i went veggie

awful kids menu, why even bother? sounds like they just dont want kids there

fryalot · 11/06/2007 17:05

my kids wouldn't love 'em

TheArmadillo · 11/06/2007 17:06

they used to get a lot of kids there before it changed owners as the previous ones were so good.

Now I'm guessing most of those people have moved on.

LOL.
That's awful.
But I do like FF sandwiches.

madmarchhare · 11/06/2007 17:07

Mm, I guess you wont be going there again.

Blu · 11/06/2007 17:10

Do they do FF sandwiches for adults too?

NineUnlikelyTales · 11/06/2007 17:10

What problem of theirs is it if the kids 'waste' food by not finishing it? If it's paid for, it's paid for. Idiots. I wouldn't want to eat at a place that thought that was all kids want to eat and I expect they will lose/change their clientele.

TheArmadillo · 11/06/2007 17:14

I think they've probably lost a lot of customers.

The main people who went before were mothers with kids and the elderly.

Now according to mum the menu has gone odd (cauliflower cheese in a pepper with nothing else) and the staff are rude.

There are plenty of other cafes in the area.

I blardy love ff sandwiches [dreamy]

Peachy · 11/06/2007 17:29

OOh I love fishfinger sarnies with salad cream

But not as the only option on a kids menu.

We happily pay a buit more for a decent kids menu- the best we found was in the IoW- and all it takes is to offer small portions; ime the inability to do this means microwave ready meals

Rubyslippers · 11/06/2007 17:30

it's a bit

limited!

OrmIrian · 11/06/2007 17:41

That's not a menu. It's an option. Just the one.

Yes most kids would probably eat it but what's wrong with smaller portions of adult food? Perhaps she hopes everyone will pay full adult price for children.

How annoying. I would take my business elsewhere.

Hulababy · 11/06/2007 17:53

That's not a menu! One item, and then not even a proper meal anyway. Gather they don't cater for veggie children?

Mind you, there is a cafe bar type place in town that sells fishfinger sandwiches for grown ups. Proper homemade fishfingers in chunky buttered bread, with sauce of your choice, served with chunky chips. Yum

Hulababy · 11/06/2007 17:54

We find that the places that won't do children's portions are the ones where the food is genreally prpacked/frozen, already in their portions type places. So no flexibility at all.

katz · 11/06/2007 17:57

which ones that hula? fish finger sandwiches are one of my personal favs!

but as the only meal choice for children - nope

MeAndMyMonkey · 11/06/2007 17:58

Oh yum. Fish finger sarnies my favourite as a child ( for breakfast, really!) and still are the best comfort food. Ketchup or not, though? That is the real question...

Hungry now

Hulababy · 11/06/2007 18:03

Ha Ha bar in the Peace Gardens. They don't let children inside, but they are allowed outside - so good for a nice sunny day, followed by a run about in the fountains
