Hello

The annual village show is upon me and I have stepped out of steward territory and entered some classes. The chair has given the baking section an overhaul so we have some, new, sections for the first time in a million years. These are also entitled novice to try and encourage new people and move away from the annual winners.

I have kept it simple and entered two gins which are done.

Sausage rolls which I can do happily. Lemon drizzle cake, fine. I was going to do scones but am pushed for time anyway that morning so trying to minimise morning prep.

So I have gone for tray bake, any type, non bake.

So, tray bake winners please. I'm trying a peppermint slice this morning but think it might be to soft...I also make a good marshmallow seven but again, possibly to soft. Remembering its sat in a tent all day.

What's your best show stopping tray bake recipes for a novice category?

Many thanks in advance.

Can you clarify if it's an actual baked in the oven type recipe you are looking for or not -or is it a fridge cake? - it's not clear from what you've written "tray bake, any type, non-bake"

It's a bit of an oxymoron! To me anyway...

Either of these 2 Nigella ones are delicious - the Xmas one's a bit richer obviously.

rocky road

Also, there have definitely been some threads on fridge cakes / your best rocky road etc. so might be worth doing a search for these as there were some delicious recipes from Mumsnetters.

Thank you both, shall try these this weekend.

Good tip re fridge cake, I have never heard it called that (perhaps an area thing) but have got some good results searching that as well. It's just tray bake here.
