I still it ok to defrost steaks, cook them, then refreeze? Nobody wants steak tonight or tomorrow and I don’t want to throw them out.

I’m watching this because I have no idea!

Glad it’s not just me who’s gormless! I’ve cooked the steaks already. But apparently it’s Chinese takeaway night.

Apparently it's fine. You just can't refreeze them in the same state again, so because you've cooked them it's supposed to be ok. I'd do it

Thanks that’s what I thought but needed confirmation from a foodie.

You can safely defrost raw mince, cook it, then refreeze it so I would assume it was ok for steaks too, although I don't know what it would do to the texture. Can you have it in sandwiches for lunch tomorrow instead?

Cleebope2 · 14/09/2018 17:31

I thought I could freeze them and then slow cook in the future as a steak casserole. Sandwiches is a good idea too. Or just give them to the cat!

Yes of course. You just shouldn't freeze defrost not cook but then refreeze.

I guess I’m asking cos they are still a bit pink. I maybe need to cook them a bit longer first.

yes they are cooked so you've killed that danger.done it then had it in pasties.pies.hotpot

RedneckStumpy · 14/09/2018 17:54

Yes it’s fine.

It’s safe to re freeze most things if you are careful. The reason we are told not to is because it’s easy to loose track of how old something is.
