OK, so this has probably been done before, if so please point a relative newbie at the thread!

I created a recipe book as a fundraiser for our local sports club a few years ago. Asked people to contribute their favourite recipes. I still use that recipe book as much as any other. So...

What is your favourite recipe for a FAMILY meal? Preferably inexpensive, not too many ingredients and quick to prepare. Might start a dinner party thread later, unless that already exists too.

So going out isn't an option?

I have a good vegtable soup one which is mega cheap and soooo yummy.

Just going to put the kids to bed and will post it after.

Veg soup

2 onions, peeled and finely chopped
1 Carrot, peeled and finely diced
1/2 small turnip, finely diced
1 1/2 pints of beef stock (or use any stock)
1oz butter
1 leek cut into rings
1 tbsp tomato puree
2 tbsp parsley
salt and pepper

Melt the butter and add the onions. Cook for 5 mins or until transparent.
Add the carrot, turnip, stock, seasoning and parsley.
Bring to boil and simmer gently for 15 mins.
Add the leek and tomato puree and cook for further 20 mins.
Blend and serve!

If you dont have turnip, an extra half leek and 2 small medium sized potatos are a great alternative.
You can do this really cheaply.

Spachcock [sp?] chicken on a bed of potatoes - roast in the oven with a cup full of chicken stock poured over the whole thing. Serve with green things

lovely ideas, and all things I'll try. Will look at sunchowders thread too. Thanks!
