Have just chopped up some apple, strawberries and grapes to give the kids when they get home, about 4 pm.

It's all in a plastic container in the fridge, but the apple will go brown won't it ??? Should i put anything in there to stop it all going brown ?

I put lemonade over it, read somewhere that it is teh best thing to stop it going brown but can't remember where!

I usually pour orange juice on it but am making a note of lemonade now!

Lemon juice will work but actually lemonade would be nice.

Hmm have neither of those.

All i have is orange squash, summer fruit squash, peach squash, little can of tonic water and a carton of capri sun apple.

No none of those, lemon juice is your best bet

Put a spoonful of lemon juice in a bowl of water and chuck the apple chunks into it. You can keep them in the acidulated water (that's what it's called) until time to eat and they'll stay pristine, or you can fish them out now and they'll only brown very slightly, if at all.

It's only jif lemon though, not real lemon, is that ok ???

Should i put it all in water too ??

FGS, wish i'd paid attention in HE now

Yep jif is fine

PrettyCandles · 08/06/2007 14:17

Jif lemon is jsust concentrated lemon juice isn't it? No flavourings or anything else? Should be fine if so. Strawberries and grapes won't discolour, so you don't need to dunk them. I think it's only apples, pears and bananas that discolour.

Thanks
