First post, im a new Mum and 20. I live with my partner and I'm wanting to start cooking more proper meals rather than getting take outs and ready meals etc. I have very little cooking experience and was wondering if anyone had any slow cooker recipes or anything that they could share with me? Must be as cheap as possible as we're on a tight budget at the moment. Thanks in advance x

You can make all sorts of great meals with cheap cuts of meat and past their best veggies.

Sausage casserole may sound boring but it can be varied and always tastes great.

Over Autumn/Winter we make one sloco meal a week and freeze back multiple portions. Stews can become pie fillings, small portions become part of a mash potato topped dish, all sorts of variations are possible.

Oddly the jacket potato in a sloco is probably the best you'll ever make - recipes for both are here

Buy veg when reduced, chop up and shove it in slow cooker with various beans for a veg stew, I add tin tomatoes as very cheap, then just some spices, for instance curry powder.

Can buy cheap gammon, currently 2.89 in Lidl, chuck in slow cooker all day, amazing! Just forks apart.

Plonk a whole chicken in it all day, every single piece of meat falls off.

I'm really clueless as to how long I need to cook meats in there for lol, worried I'll under cook them

Oh my fave by far is honey garlic chilli chicken or something similar- it's on YouTube. I don't always put in the veg, and sometimes just the potatoes and carrots.

And another fave is a whole pork loin joint, about £6-8 in supermarket, pour over a whole jar of Newman's barbecue sauce (maybe it's a marinade....) and cook on low for 8 hours. Simple pulled pork......delish.

Here's a good youtube video but I don't use this one for the honey garlic chicken
