Za'atar, what else can I do with it?

I have some lovely (authentic) Za'atar other than putting it on toast, or making a manakish and putting it on that what else can I use it with?

I absolutely love it! Veggie ideas would be perfect!

I make this beetroot yogurt dip with zataar: ottolenghi.co.uk/pureed-beetroot-with-yoghurt-za-atar-shop

Look up Yotam Ottolenghi's recipe for braised eggs with zataar, it's one of my favourite fishes. (Ottolenghi uses zataar in practically everything, come to think of it.) It's also good sprinkled over the inside of baked aubergine.

Dishes, obviously...

Thank you!

@lrwe I love that beetroot dip

Margaurette · 02/09/2018 22:11

Sprinkle it on roast chicken 15 mins before the cooking time ends. Lush.

A Syrian friend recommended a book called Palestine on a plate, it's arriving tomorrow. I love Middle Eastern food!

I made a Paella type dish yesterday. No meat, just prawns and sea bass. How
long can I keep the leftovers for? Its been cooled and is refrigerated in an airtight container. Im hoping it will be ok for lunch tomorrow?

You can make a dip - garlic, coriander, oil and za'atar.
Bit like your "on toast", but za'atar pizza - bread or pizza dough, rolled thin, sprinkled with za'atar, cooked then drizzled with oil.
Shakshuka is hood with some sprinkled over the top.
Likewise, a salad dressing of oil, lemon and za'atar over a salad of cucumber, pepper, tomato and chickpeas.

This pie type affair is on my to try list.

We live in Dubai and our local cafe serves it with soft boiled eggs and soldiers - delish!

Sabrina Ghayour has a lovely persian inspired recipe for butternut squash with za'tar, someone has helpfully posted here:

scandelights.com/2016/11/03/zaatar-roasted-butternut-squash-spiced-yoghurt-and-chillies/

Za'tar is also very nice used as a rub on chicken or salmon which are then roasted...

Roll halloumi in it before grilling.

Tonight I'm having za'atar on sourdough with sautéed spinach and poached eggs, I love Shakshuka also. I wish we had Zaatar w zeit here!

Dip bread in posh olive oil. Dip oily bread in bowl of za'atar. Eat. Yum.
