Healthy bbq ideas?

I'm trying to lose weight at the moment. DSD wants a bbq this weekend so I'd love to make it a bit healthier. Last time I did Cajun chicken skewers with peppers and onions. I'd love to do something different this time.

What are your healthy bbq ideas?

Chicken tikka
Prawn and salmon kebabs
Tuna - either steaks or burgers

Mango salsa is amazing with all of the above

Chicken chunks or turkey breast strips, marinated in a spice mix, then threaded onto skewers.

I love the Shwartz grill mates Mojito Lime marinade. It's really delicious. I make it up with the oil and bacardi (you could drop this, of course) and leave the chicken in it all day before cooking.

Corn on the cob is also really good done on the BBQ, if you can get it in the husks from a farm shop. Or peppers, mushrooms and halloumi threaded onto skewers is also good.

Are you following a particular eating plan?

PoesyCherish · 03/08/2018 18:12

@TheAmazingShrinkingWoman no just calorie counting and trying to make sure the vast majority of those calories come from nutritious foods rather than say sugary or fatty foods.

Ok, I would recommend doing lots of posh complicated salads plus stuffed peppers etc before you've even thought about meat. Lots of variety so you only need to have a tablespoon of each thing but feel really satisfied.

@TheAmazingShrinkingWoman the stuffed peppers are a fab idea! I'd never have thought of those, thanks!

Sliced mushrooms with a couple of cloves of garlic. Only take 5 mins to cook. Grind over some pepper, squeeze of lemon and crumble over some feta cheese.

Zucchini sliced lengthwise bbqs nicely.

I agree so for lots of Veges

We tend to bbq a lot of veggies - DH will marinade mushrooms in garlic and soy sauce, bake sweet potatoes in the embers, corn on the Cobb is great and you can slice cauliflower “steaks” and grill them too - less calories and more nutrition than burgers and sausages

Chicken Skewers would be the best option. Everyone will love it.
Here's the recipe:
2 lbs. of chicken thighs
1/8 cup of soy sauce
1/8 cup of olive oil
1 tsp. of dried oregano
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 lemon, juiced
3 medium multicolored bell peppers
skewers

Do lots of salads. You can carry on eating them through the week if there's any leftovers.

Big tray of roasted veg.

I'd bulk out with salads. Tabboleh is great (keeps well too) but does need oil. Tomato salad with sliced red onions and balsamic vinegar. A fresh salsa (mango as someone mentioned is refreshing and feels a bit different).

Then rather than burger buns and hot dog rolls flat bread (though I could easily eat enough to make it worse!) And lots of veg, griddled aubergine would be yummy, corn on the cob, roasted peppers etc.

I'm hungry now!
