Got a packet of this in the cupboard, impulse buy, now wondering what to do with it. Any recommendations?

TIA!

I believe orzo is the Italian name for barley and it's given to that pasta shape because that's what it looks like.

So far I've made a one-pot meal by frying onion, garlic, mushrooms, chopped chicken breast and pancetta, adding orzo and hot stock, and at the end adding spinach to wilt down and then lots and lots of Parmesan. It was lovely.

I do also like real barley in a gloriously thick broth along with lentils, peas, potatoes, carrots, swede, celery, leek, parsley and kale or cabbage. Wonderful winter food, especially with a bit of meat or chicken in there too, preferably on the bone. I come from a family of Scottish souplovers and all the women in my family made glorious soup on these lines.

Rick Stein has a lovely receipe in his Venice to Istanbul book for a chicken and tomato stew with orzo, there's a version here:

You could probably do the chicken and tomato part in a slow cooker and then just add the orzo at the end?

This is delicious, except I usually increase the amount of leek and don’t use fennel www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bonappetit.com/recipe/one-skillet-chicken-with-buttery-orzo/amp
