Have you got self raising flour or plain flour?

burstingbug · 27/05/2007 11:19

Oh hell, I will give you the recipe anyway, as it is so quick and easy (I made some yesterday in less than half an hour, cooking time included and my family devoured them in another half and hour!)

Sieve 8oz self raising flour
Rub in with your fingertips 3oz margarine/butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Add 3oz sugar (I use caster) and either 4oz chocolate drops or 4oz dried fruit and 1/4 tsp of mixed spice (only with the fruit, not with the chocolate drops -I should think it is optional anyway)
Add one egg and mix it together with a knife. You may need to use a small amount of milk to bring the mixture together into a soft consistency.
Grease a baking tray and put the mixture in small rock like lumps on the tray (leave room for growth)
Bake at 200C for 15 minutes.

It is a great recipe for children to make. You can't really go wrong with it (famous last words...!)
