I’m in the middle of making a fajita kit. I need sour cream - can I use mayonnaise instead? Anything else I can use?

Natural yoghurt

Alwayscommuting · 01/07/2018 19:23

I often use creme fresh

Strax · 01/07/2018 19:23

Plain yoghurt?

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/07/2018 19:23

Natural yoghurt?
What is it for?

Cantchoosenickname · 01/07/2018 19:26

Hmmm not sure my local shop will have creme fresh or natural yoghurt and the big supermarkets are closed now.

Normal double cream with a squeeze of lemon

Mayo doesn't sound terribly appetising - agree with the creme fraiche suggestions!

Or skip creamy things and have guacamole?

expatmigrant · 01/07/2018 20:29

I always use greek yogurt now when I make fajitas as healthier and lower cals than sour cream.
Mayo doesn't really work. I would rather skip it.

I always use low-fat creme fraiche - our local co-op sells it but they also sell sour cream!

Had nothing else in fridge so used up some coleslaw with our fajitas last week and wasn't so bad with a bit of grated cheese...

You can add lemon juice to natural yoghurt, to turn it in to sour cream apparently....haven't tried it myself.
