Need some help baking a cake please

Hiya

Hope somebody can help me out here,

My DDs birthday on Friday and the lady who was supposed to bake her cake has cancelled on me

So I thought why not bake my own cake lol

I want to bake a 8" chocolate cake covered with kinder chocolates

Now Iv brought a readymade Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix and will be using with the vanilla frosting

Only ever bake fairy cakes lol but I have faith in myself I can do it haha

Brought loads of kinder chocolates aswell

But the only two things I'm stuck on is

The cake we will be taking to my parents house as they having a bbq party for DD so today I brought a cake box and board only just noticed it's for a 12" cake

So would I still be able to use a 12" cake board for a 8" cake?

And I have no cake tins so brought a pack of disposable big 8"cake cases like the fairy cake cases but bigger

What I want to know is would it be better to get a 10" cake board instead? Or will the 12" board and box be fine

The board will be fine but the cake case will need to be in a tin

These are the ones I have purchased

They're liners, they need to be in a tin. They'll collapse if not.

It looks like what you have is something to line a baking tin with. It won't hold its shape just on its own. Doesn't necessarily have to be a round tin though, you could probably improvise something with a rectangular or square form if you have either?

The liners alone won’t hold the cake but if you can’t get a baking tin in time and have some tin foil you could makeshift your own...

Where are you based

You can put the smaller cake on the bigger board, it’ll make no difference as long as the cake isn’t bigger than the board! Splodge some frosting (thin smear) on the board where the middle of the cake will go to stick the bottom on, then stick the top cake on and ice round it. Easier once on the board than moving it.
You’ll need some cake tins. You can grab pretty cheaply in any supermarket look for ‘sandwich Tins’ in the cookware bit. Then you can stick your liners in. They won’t be full though. I’d just grease the tins for a Betty Crocker as they will be more shallow than your liners. Does that help? Sorry if it’s confusing. Need sleep!

I did try my local b&m bargains, homebargains & Poundland because chances are I won't bake again after this lol

@rosesandcashmere ahh I get you Hun, I did watch a YouTube video on the Betty Crocker cakes and the lady also used a greased sandwich tin, I just thought the liners would be a cheaper option lol

I don't know anybody in the area, I have only moved here 7 months ago, but I thought il pop into wilko tmrw and see if they have any

Sainsbury’s have them and probably all supermarkets

If you were near to me then I would’ve happily baked you one.

I managed to buy a tin today didn't realise I needed two till I got
Home lol 😂 so il bake one half then take that out to cool and bake the second half,

I will show you all a photo tmrw as I'm baking it tmrw

Sorry if this is obvious, but if you're going to reuse the tin then only make up half the mix at a time. Otherwise the raising agents will lose their effectiveness if the mixture is left on the side for longer than a few minutes or so.

I’ve done Betty Crocker like that and it’s fine. Don’t worry about half and half it’s quick. Just leave it on the side for ease. The kinder will add height! Good luck

Ah fair enough. I've heard the Asda ones are good value and taste great.

Seriously your tin will be fine. Just leave half on the side for 25 mins. Then bake. Then cover it in chocolate! :)

@halfwitpicker last year I did buy one from Asda, even the cupcakes are lovely from there
