Hi my nephew is callling in with some Uni friends for the weekend, they will be here for 2 nights and I know they will eat like horses. Just looking for some ideas to feed 4 extra mouths that won't break the bank please!

Ah my brother does this best answer is get a few bags of frozen wedges cook them up and loads of pizzas can get them quite cheap already done in Asda on the deli counter bit. Crisps and for second night burgers! I'm sure they won't mind chips two nights in a row if their anything like my brother and his mates they'll be wolfed down. Or failing that a lasagne and garlic bread?. Or pizza and garlic bread first night?z

Pizza! with trimmings (garlic bread & salad) you can offer different topping quite easily, ditto lasagne, shepherd pie with standard veg & old fashioned puddings like crumble & custard or ice cream, anybody a vegetarian? Roast Chicken with stuffing and roast pots & stuffing ect with pudding

Huge spag bol with garlic bread and salad for one night.
Roast goes down well, but unless it's a MN chicken, I doubt that it would be big enough - get a large joint of pork or beef. And then loads of roasties and Yorkshires, and veg.

ReservoirDogs · 22/06/2018 10:04

Fajitas

Curry

Chili con carne

BBQ (if sunny)

they are uni students - they will eat anything you give them! (But check for veggies!!)

Seeline · 22/06/2018 10:05

Oh and make sure you have loads of bread and milk. Toast can be eaten at all times of day and night, and milk is often a popular drink.

I will sometimes get pizzas from Aldi because they are decent and if you add their dough balls and poppin chicken it is like dominos but better and cheaper. I don’t think you can go wrong with a roast either. They all like trifle. Jelly, custard, cream.

cutewithsharpteethpossibly · 22/06/2018 10:22

thanks will add that to my list, heading off to Aldi at lunch time!

Cheese - cheapest 'cheddar' mousetrap going.

Our 3 boys would demolish a loaf of bread and a 250g block of cheese as the after school snack to keep them going until dinner at 19h00.

Apples. About 1kg per day for our lot.

Yes to Spag Bog, Shephard's or Cottage Pie, Goulash, Moussaka, Lancashire Hotpot, Chilli con Carne, Pizza (but only Mum's, supermarket frozen stuff is 'rank' apparently).

Large buckets of home made soup. With lots of bread to fill the interstices.

But, generally university students subsist on that type of stuff all term, so large lumps of anatomically identifiable dead mammal would be much appreciated. So large cheap joints of roast pork with all the traditional trimmings would earn their undying devotion. 'Meat you can cut with a knife' was our lot's name for it. Not chicken or fish - that isn't 'real meat' - another quote of offspring from an earlier age.

Traditional sponge puds with lashing of custard. Very 1930's Bunter et al but much appreciated.

Do you bake? Male university students are deprived of a proper Mom's Victoria Sponge.

Did I mention bread?

Did I mention BEER

GrumpyOlderBloke · 22/06/2018 10:31

GrumpyOlderBloke · 22/06/2018 10:33

Do not under any circumstances allow to escape outside and take exercise.
Their food intake will double.
