Sugar emergency! Can I subtitute sprinkles or syrup?

I've run out of sugar and am in the middle of trying to make muffins! I have lots of those decorative sugar sprinkles—can I use them as a substitute? The recipe calls for half a cup of granulated sugar.

I also have rather a lot of maple syrup if that would work.

Not syrup as melting point lower and muffins will have weird texture. Sprinkles if white may be okay - throw them into food processor to get confectioners sugar then convert quantity?

The sprinkles are multicoloured, but I will try the food processor as you suggested. Thanks!

Maybe mashing a banana and beating it in might be a solution. That usually makes muffins sweet.

Thanks for the suggestions! I normally put a banana in this recipe as well. I tried the sprinkles and it seemed to work ok (and strangely, they didn't make the muffins turn an odd colour).
