Tasting menu in London

It is my son's 9th birthday soon. He is really into food and wants to be a chef. Was thinking of taking him for a tasting menu somewhere as he would love the variety and the chance to try so much stuff. He is well behaved but would still like somewhere with a relaxed vibe. In an ideal world where he could see the kitchen. Uma in Barcelona would be perfect if it wasn't in Barcelona . Has anyone got any suggestions in London?

Set lunches are the best way to eat super high-end food for a reasonable price in London. Would he enjoy any of these?

My children are a bit younger and they loved the Sunday dim sum menu at hakkasan.

Barrafina? Not a tasting menu, but you can sit at the counter and have an amazing view of the kitchen. Or Morito - same reason. Food in both is fantastic, and lots of little dishes so you get to try masses of different things.

Ledbury had a few kids in and the staff were quite informal. Pollen Street social has a reputation for excellent food in a relaxed environment but I haven't been yet.
Choose a non busy day and ask when you book if you can get a tour of the kitchen. We were offered a tour of the kitchen in Petrus quite unexpectedly, staff were very warm and helpful but still fairly formal. And Locatelli's were just lovely with the kids - they made them feel so special.
My kids remember every special trip they have made to a fine dining restaurant - they love going.

How about Benihanna where they cook the food right in front of you?

Pollen Street Social is fabulous, but I can't imagine a 9 year old enjoying the food, that might be just mine though!

Inamo. Definitely! There are three in London.
Each table has an interactive surface, basically like a large iPad. You can draw on your table, play interactive games such as battleships with the rest of the people dining with you, change the colour and mood of the area around your table and check out the local area. One of the coolest features is the chef-cam which allows you to watch your food being prepared.
The food is a fusion of Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Thai. There are many large sharing platters in the menu, but they do a tasting menu as well with 6 small dishes per person.

its not in London.but manor saison is amazing.eoseically if you could do a tour of the garden where he grows his produce.

A couple more thoughts, although I've never taken children to either, the River Cafe and Chez Bruce are quite child friendly. My six year old loves looking at the River Cafe fruit and veg garden when we walk past so was thinking of taking him there.

La gavroche was child friendly - but the vibe was not relaxed, my kids still laugh about how overly formal the waiters were, not that they felt uncomfortable by it, it was just all so silly and unnecessary.

Typing room in Bethnal green town hall does a great tasting menu and has an open kitchen and a friendly casual vibe. Tredwells do a kids tasting menu and took my son to the kitchen last time we went and were lovely with him. We also like the tasting menu at hutong in the shard.

Downstairs in Nopi, the Ottolenghi flagship, there are tables in the kitchen - really fun to watch the chefs and it's not too hot!

Oh and all the dishes are small sharing plates so you can try everything on the menu. We asked our waiter and he constructed a tasting for us.

Another one that springs to mind is Kiln on Brewer St with a long bar in the open kitchen and everything cooked over charcoal but it's Burmese/Northern Thai and a lot of things are quite spicy. I adore it though.

We went to Mere, Monica Galetti's first solo venture with our 11year old for his first tasting menu. It's a shorter menu than most places and they were great with him. He loved all but one dish, the butter poached fish was deemed too buttery 😂
