I have pork mince - is 'pigherd's pie' nice?

I like shepherd's pie, I like cottage pie, but I've never made it with pork mince. Is it a thing? Is it a bit too intensely piggy?

Mmmmmmmmmm. Meatballs would be nicer.

I’ve done this and it’ very bland tasting even with loads of herbs.

Maybe firing as balls or burgers would be nicer.

'Swine herd's Pie' has a better ring to it Grin.

frying

Might be a bit greasy? I think pork mince is better for asian-style or normal meatballs.

I'd make pork and Apple burgers instead

Pighouse pie!!!

Yeah it works, add a load of herbs.

I add this between the potato and mince: chop leeks v finely and gently fry in butter. Add dollop creme frauche and handful any grated cheese. Add chives or spring onion if you have any. Good punch of white pepper. Then layer on over mince.

Not bland AT ALL.

Nah, I don't think it would work. Maybe try this:

250g pork mince
25g dry sage and onion stuffing mix
raw egg
1 chopped onion
1 grated eating apple

Mix all the ingredients together and bake for 40 minutes.

I call it sausage pie. Usually include some sausage meat. But yes, it definitely seems more oily.

Many thanks all. Am going to go for Asian meatballs as I seem to turn everything blander than it should be and often find shepherds pie a bit greasy because I'm too lazy to make it properly

I always recommend this recipe for pork mince. I serve it with grated carrot and spring onion salad. With a soy, sweet chilli, fish sauce and sesame oil dressing. Yummy!

I made Swedish meatballs last night (bbc recipe). Big thumbs up.
