Deep fat fryers...tips, please

A few years ago my sister bought me a little deep fat fryer. I haven't used it yet for various reasons, not least fear & terror of cleaning it.

Last week we had the most amazing home fried chips, and the kids have been banging on since about making some. So, any tips on;

  • which oil to use
  • how best to empty & clean it
  • chip recipes (!)
  • other things to fry

Thanks!

Use sunflower or rapeseed oil

Empty and clean it by following the instructions that came with it - without knowing what type you have it’s hard to be specific

Chip recipes - Nigella’s recipe for double fried chips is a winner

Other things to fry:
Homemade doughnuts
Samosas
Onion rings
Tempura anything
Bananas
Ice cream (trust me)
Fish / seafood
