dark muscovado substitute?

Hi all

I've just noticed that I'm out of dark muscovado sugar. I have demerara sugar and light brown sugar. Would any of these work as a substitute? Or should I just wait till I get to the store?

The recipe is for a malt loaf (in a breadmaker)

I'd use the light brown sugar, the texture is more similar to muscovado. I think the demerara is a bit crunchy iyswim

If you want the taste then molasses or a proper solid lump of cane sugar. If it’s just for colour then either of what you already have.

Do you have any treacle? If so, I’d use the Demerara and a dollop of treacle.

Do you have any black treacle? I would use the light brown plus a good dollop of treacle if you have it.

Light brown, and a dollop of treacle if you have it would get my vote.

Thanks for the replies everyone

No treacle unfortunately - I'll have to get some tomorrow. This particular recipe (haven't tried it before) uses only bread flour so IME the recipe may need something extra like treacle or dark muscovado sugar for both taste and color.

I'll just have to double check I have all the ingredients next time Blush
