Has anyone frozen hummus successfully?

Just that really. Little one really likes it but we dont so much, and i prefer not to give it several days in a row so was thinking of freezing it in ice cube trays. Just wondering how successful that would be?

😂
Watching this with interest too...for the hummus not the humans

ILikeMyChickenFried · 12/05/2018 12:50

Also read humans.

magimedi · 12/05/2018 12:51

I've frozen homemade & it's OK - not as nice as fresh though. It doesn't split or anything like that.

Have never frozen humans!

JellySlice · 12/05/2018 12:54

I've done exactly this with various degrees of success. (Frozen hummus, that is, not humans.) Sometimes it defrists fine, sometimes it splits and needs to be rebeaten. I think maybe different makes freeze better than others. I wouldn't freeze low-fat hummus, for example, because the water:fat ratio is probably too heavily weighted towards water.

catinboots9 · 12/05/2018 12:57

I was still thinking it said humans when I read the entire OP. Took a few seconds for the penny to drop.

Might be easier to buy o mini pots of hummus. Unopened, they keep easily over a week in the fridge.

Herja · 12/05/2018 12:59

Me! I make it by the pint. Put some olive oil on the top first, make sure it's in an air tight container and it's fine.

PatchworkWellies · 12/05/2018 13:07

If you mean shop bought, then it freezes beautifully and defrosts a little runnier than before. I always get 2 or 3 tubs on a shop to last us the week and the ones we're not immediately starting go in freezer. Dont read packaging though as it will tell you not to freeze!!!

Homemade - never had any success (either making one that tasted ok or freezing it!!)

I’ve frozen bought and homemade both fine, just needs a bit of a stir. It lasts quite a long time when open though, a couple of weeks.

infertilitybitch · 12/05/2018 13:37

I read as humans too! Was quite worried Blush

magimedi · 12/05/2018 13:44

This is the best recipe for hummus I've ever come across. The order & length of blending ingredients really does work.

I sometimes skin the chickpeas & it is a bit nicer but not vital.

Oh thanks everyone. Bought some today so will try freezing it in smallish batches.
Thanks for the recipe as well. Will give it a bash one day as it must surely be cheaper than shop bought? 🤔

Still arf-ing at the humans 🤣🤣🤣
