Rice question

Probably a really really stupid question but we never really used to eat a lot of rice but lately have been trying a few recipes that incorporate it. Some recipes like for example a jambalaya I tried the other day the method said to add the rice to the dish and cook it in the sauce but on the packet for the rice it says to rinse before and also rinse after cooking which is how I've always cooked it. Is it ok to put the uncooked rice into the dish (after rinsing first obviously) or does it need to be cooked seperately and rinsed twice? Thank you

No, you just put the uncooked rice in the dish and it's fine - you want it to cook in the liquid and absorb the flavour - if you were to cook it separately it wouldn't do that. I think the instructions on your pack are aimed at people who are having it as an accompaniment
