Sharing cake at adult bday party

Morning all- am having adult bday party- 40th no less! Am having a fancy 3 tiered cake made. At what point does this get cut and shared with guests? Am having a finger buffet.

Whenever you want? When the majority of the guests have arrived? Take it all home for yourself?

To be more specific, I'd say when the buffet is under way.

Yes I agree once most people are finishing off with the savoury part of the buffet. Someone (not you - spouse? Friend? Parent?) should hush everyone, say (at least) a few words to wish you happy Birthday, then everyone should sing (cringe!!) and then you cut the cake.
