Coca Cola ham?

Does anyone else make this? I was wondering: what sort of ham/gammon do you usually buy? Any twists on the recipe you'd recommend? (I know it's more of a Christmassy thing but I have a craving for it!)

Just a basic gammon joint really. You can do it with ginger beer instead if you like.

yes fabulous. smoked gammon. suggest making parsley sauce with the coca cola stock. serve w. mash & carrots.

Cherry coke works beautifully too- I make it often, with with a slaw in buns or with all the veg and parsley sauce. Mmmmm

Rum Ham!!! Grin

Coca Cola ham is like a dog. Defintely not just for Christmas! Grin

Smoked gammon with Dr Pepper is my favourite combination, especially if I’ve left it in the slow cooker overnight Smile

Definitely a good choice all year round. I just use a big standard unsmoked ham. Ginger beer sounds like a great idea!

chemenger · 29/04/2018 18:32

All the more important to use genuine Coca Cola now that everything else has sweeteners rather than sugar. I don’t fancy aspartame ham much.

joystir59 · 29/04/2018 18:36

I do it every Christmas with an unsmoked ham joint. Soooo tender

NapQueen · 29/04/2018 18:37

Dr Pepper gammon??? I must try this. How much dp? And do you chuck all the veg and potatoes in there too

Eminybob · 29/04/2018 18:39

I don’t know, I made it a couple of chrsitmasses ago and wasn’t that impressed. I used the hallowed nigella recipe too.

It’s funny, we have to have a ham every Christmas, love it, but I have never ever cooked one any other time of year.

AnnaMagnani · 29/04/2018 18:41

Basic gammon. If you buy a v fancy cured gammon joint from the butcher it's a bit of a waste as you don't get to enjoy their work or the joy of the coke.

So ordinary stuff from the supermarket. It elevates it to another level.

Lexie1970 · 29/04/2018 18:41

I have just done this for today... yes to genuine full fat coke.. I stud two halvesof an onion with cloves and a bay leaves cooked in a slow cooker all day. Served with mash, red cabbage and green veg. I let it down using bisto gravy as it needs something with it... I have used Beth smoked and unsmoked gammon.

Dr Pepper gammon??? I must try this. How much dp? And do you chuck all the veg and potatoes in there too?. The veg and potatoes don’t go in there because I’m a greedy bitch so the ham only just fits in the slow cooker Grin

I just pour in enough so that it’s covered Smile

NapQueen · 29/04/2018 22:06

Completely covered all the way over?
