Mild chicken curry for toddler and pre-schooler

DC's (4 and 2)have both started getting into chicken recently and I'd like to try them on a mild almost bland chicken curry. Anyone got any recipes that are a success with young 'uns?

chicken paprika
1.peel a couple of onions and fry them

  1. get chicken pieces (cut up chicken breast is best) and roll them in a bit of flour
  2. fry them in a separate frying pan (not really eesential to have two pans but better with timing that way) - cook til 'browned' then put in pan with onions
  3. add a couple of peppers chopped up and a dessert spoon of paprika (the recipe says take out the chicken for this but I never do as it is only part cooked at this stage - but i shove it to one side of the pan and put the paprika over onions and pepper)
  4. cook for afew minutes
  5. add a couple of tomatoes chopped up
  6. add 300ml chicken stock (i just use boiling water though)
  7. cover and simmer for abotu 20 mins tiil chicken is cooked
  1. take out chicken
10. put 1tablespoon of cornflour into a mug with a little bit of cold water in then stir that into the sauce 11. stir constantly and bring it to the boil 12. add 50ml of soured cream - simmer but don't boil as cream will go yucky 13. pour sauce on chicken

serve with rice or couscous

Just get some Pataks korma sauce or paste, you don't need anything else.

Serve with rice and peas; cucumber & tomato (and or mixed up with yog on the side)

Forget the chicken stock cube.

Thanks everyone. DH eats the Pataks paste one but they didn't like it. Sweetening it up 'à la Karmel' with fruit and peppers is a good idea. Will try that.

I make The Dinner Lady's chicken curry for DH and 5y DD:

225g carrots, peel and dice quite small
225g onions, peel and roughly dice
1 garlic clove, peel and finely chop
225g eating apples, peel and core and dice (cover with lemon juice to stop them going brown)
1tbsp olive oil
1tbsp mild curry powder
2tsp tumeric
450g diced chicken
25g plain flour
600ml water
55g sultanas
1tbsp mango chutney

Put onions in pan with olive oil, and cook over moderate heat until soft. Add garlic, carrot, curry powder and tumeric. Cook for further 10 minutes or until carrots are soft. Add chicken. Stir all ingredients together and cook for 5 minutes to seal chicken.

Mix flour and water together until smooth. Sieve mixture into the pan. Stir well, cover and cook for 25-30 minutes.

Add the apples, sultanas and mango chutney and mix. Leave to cook for further 10 minutes.

Serve with rice and naan.

Mild chicken dhal curry - not a proper recipe as such (ie. it's a toddler version of something more complicated), but my ds loves it with rice .

  1. Fry chopped onion and garlic and add small chicken pieces until browned.
  2. Add finely chopped leeks, courgettes and carrots. Cook through.
  3. Tip a can of coconut milk over the top, add small amounts of cumin, cinnamon, turmeric
and garam masala.
  1. Chuck in half a cup full of red lentils.
  2. Simmer for 30 mins, stirring occasionally, and adding a little water if needed.

(You can change the veg to anything you want, and add chickpeas something a little different)

If they don't like the Patak's paste then I would sweeten it with pineapple or sweetcorn and use coconut milk or yoghurt.

(tbh, the sauce is better for kids, I use paste for adults)
