Is it tricky to make Easter eggs?

I'm thinking of getting a mould - quite a large-ish one - melting some chocolate and having a go. Has anyone done this, and did it go well, or did it turn into a Paddington-type disaster?

Well if you want to get a shiny, professional looking finish then you need to temper the chocolate which isn't the easiest thing to do and you need a thermometer to do and it is a bit faffy - but if that doesn't sound too daunting then go for it - it can be good fun

no really fun and once you get over your "first try" possible disaster you learn how the choc spreads dries etc and it works brilliantly.
I never tempura the choc.they were fine.
when sticking the two halves together get choc at the right setting point so they stick.to wet and mine slid rather than stuck together.
also let them cool completely.hold firm.
so leave time.
have fun.they look awesome.

I'm not bothered about making it all shiny and professional-looking. Just all in one piece would be fine for me.

I do it, and put things inside the egg as surprise presents. It's for my family and I don't bother tempering any more - they'd not notice the shine or the snap of the tempered chocolate.

It IS quite messy and always seems to take a bit longer than I think it will. And it is not a task that I want my kids' help with. I may let them decorate the eggs that I've made if I am feeling magnanimous.

Ds decided we would make eggs this year as he wanted the sweets of his choice in the egg. I've bought moulds from Lakeland, so we'll see how they turn out!

Ours turned out really well, and just using Lidl chocolate has created lovely shiny eggs
