I've heard that you should roast them is that with skin on or off? Whole or into chunks? Any advice greatly received, they have only just made it to the shelves of my local shop, being in the back of beyond that we are

Fart.
They are very flatulence inducing.

suzywong · 09/05/2007 16:50

Blu · 09/05/2007 16:50

Put them in the compost?

Swizzler · 09/05/2007 16:51

Scrub then roast w olive oil and lemon. I love them

Taylormama · 09/05/2007 16:58

soup -
scrub and peel them and fry off with loads of carrots, 1 big onion and a potao, celery and add stock to cover - simmer for 20 mins and then liquidise. It is yummy
Add salt and pepper and chilli to taste. It is delicious and a lovely orange colour

Whoooosh · 09/05/2007 16:59

Stand by for lift off........scrummy but they really do make you fart!

mrsmalumbas · 09/05/2007 17:00

Oh my god yes the farting - DH and I had them once, and only once. The roof was nearly lifted off the house because of the flatulence in our bedroom that night. Not good if you are planning a romantic dinner!

Mumpbump · 09/05/2007 17:08

Remove the outer leaves, then boil them and serve with a garlic mayonnaise type dip. You peel the leaves off, dip the bottom of them in the dip and kind of suck the flesh off them. Very fiddly, quite nice, but very fiddly. Otherwise, cut all the leaves off and just boil the hearts.

I'm completely terrified now thanks!

That soup sounds lovely but I'm going to try and roast them first and see what the gas reaction is like...Oh god, dp farts on a 2 minute basis anyway, this could be fun

Thanks for the tips, er I think

definitely soup. delicious.

Lizzer · 09/05/2007 17:10

Mumpbump, these are the artichokes that look like poatoes not the globe ones, your recipe sounds nice though

Mumpbump · 09/05/2007 17:20

Oops! Sorry! I did wonder if I was talking about the right ones, but couldn't remember which was which...

Klio · 09/05/2007 18:57

Grate them, then for each mug of grated artichoke add 1 tablespoon of flour, some chopped up flaked almonds and a squeeze of lemon juice. Form into little patties and fry. Really fantastic. Or you can slice the artichokes and mix with double cream, lemon juice, salt, pepper and chilli and bake in the oven for about 40 mins on 200C.

Whoooosh · 09/05/2007 20:15

Ooh Kilo-you recipes sound yum!

Whoooosh · 09/05/2007 20:16

Klio even

Lizzer · 10/05/2007 18:29

Klio, that indeed sounds delicious, I've got them in the oven right now, will let you know what I think and how stinky the house is afterwards

They were great! I'm going to grate them up klio style and soup them too next time, thanks for the tips girls

So far no farting but I imagine that will happen in the next few hours, hopefully I will be asleep
