Kinda food question - more of a homemade wine question really!

We've made our first batch of homemade wine this year and it has just been sent out to various family members for testing! Reports back so far are good, but someone wanted to know today, how strong it is. Does anyone know if there is a gadget we can buy that will tell us the alcohol content or do we just go with 'knock ya socks off'!

right, either no-one makes homemade wine or those that do, are too pissed from not knowing the proof of their wine to type!

Yes, hydrometer - dh uses one for beer too (& our one attempt into wine -twas a disaster!)

It tells you specific gravity I think. No idea what that is personally, but i daresay you'll find out

A hydrometer, right o! A friend of ours was so taken with it, he not only drank most of a bottle to himself, he said he'd pay money for it! Bless - he may have been to drunk to know what he was saying, will have to ask him again in the monring!

Well I would be - but I don't drink white wine! I've got 27 bottles of the stuff and I don't like it that much. Although if there's nothing else to drink, I'll have ago!

I understand from my dh, that this is only the begining! His dad has given up 8 demijohns to go with the 6 we already have, so aparently, we have to overlap the brewing process so we are bottling every other weekend! It gonna be a long (drunk) summer I feel!

Did you see how I dodged the payment in wine question there!
