Calling Ocado shoppers! What's the deal with Ocado shopping. Is it any good?

What are the delivery charges? I presume there is a minimum spend for free delivery?

Are you happy with the products and do they usually deliver all the things you've asked for? Also, what's the allergen info like?

Please tell me anything else useful to know. Many thanks

Love Ocado. They deliver on time and products normally come with a long use by date.

forcryinoutloud · 06/03/2018 22:11

thanks 27

Agree with 27. but haven't found fresh fruit/ sometimes veg to be consistently good quality and don't like that you can't buy it loose as you can with Tesco groceries. They are good about refunds if something isn't right.

As a new customer you should be able to get a free trial for Smart Pass delivery subscription. (Think it's a year free with first order and money off order.) Minimum spend for free delivery with that is £40, £60 for that first one. They have a mid week and an everyday option that will cost different amounts agreeafter the free trial but you can cancel before it ends or I think change to the cheaper one.

I have had things out of stock and not always a sensible substitution but usually only 1 or 2 per order. (Or none). Allergen info looks helpful. And they have user reviews on most products to help you decide which to get. Quite happy with their range for most stuff.

forcryinoutloud · 07/03/2018 18:38

Thanks for that HelloMist, I think it's highly likely I will be giving them a go.

I really recommend them! We tried a few different deliveries and ocado was the best for us. We have the smart pass, so get free delivery at any time. The minimum order is £40 and drivers are almost always punctual, friendly and helpful. The customer service is really good too. And you can get great quality waitrose stuff as well as the cheaper ocado range. Only downside is that I find they run out of stock quite a lot on fairly standard items. But I've been using them for a while now and they're good.

INeedNewShoes · 07/03/2018 18:44

I really rate Ocado above other delivery supermarkets I've used (Tesco, Waitrose, Asda).

Ocado rarely substitute products for me; on average it's a substitute every 3 or 4 shops.

They stock a really good range of branded products, including brands you can't easily find elsewhere, and their own brand products are often very good and very reasonable.

The only disappointing thing I've repeatedly had a problem with is under-ripe cantaloupe melon so I've stopped buying those.

The drivers are friendly and helpful.

It's just a good shopping experience.

If you want to PM one of the Ocado shoppers on this thread we'll be able to send you £20 off voucher (and the existing customer gets one too).

Vitalogy · 07/03/2018 18:51

I don't have a smart pass, so the min spend is £75, which is fine as I get fortnightly shops. Free delivery Wednesday evening, they do other days/times free slots, you'll have to check and see. Don't forget your discount for first shop, I think it's £20 off. Been shopping with them for years now, they're great. Oh, and they buy back theirs and other shops carrier bags.

CMOTDibbler · 07/03/2018 18:51

I love Ocado, and I'm gluten free and their selection is AMAZING, plus you get a full ingredients list on everything

Tobuyornot99 · 07/03/2018 18:54

They are great at most things, but sometimes will run out of basics like 4 pint jacks of milk so you have to either trudge to the shops or upgrade to orgainic or suchlike. I much prefer them to other online retailers, partly due to their one hour time slots, my local Asda has a 2 hour slot which is a real bind.

roseyposeyshmosey · 07/03/2018 19:00

I've done three shops with them so far and love them. I got the free smart pass with a referral email a friend sent me.

I've never had anything substituted but they have been out of stock on 2 things I've needed (1 per shop) but that's only when I've ordered on a Friday evening.

drivers are friendly and helpful, always on time.

the smart pass takes a week to kick in after your first order so i had to pay for delivery with my second shop however I used the live chat on the website the next day and they refunded it immediately.

shelf life on fresh produce is great and I love that they receipt is listed by use by date, so I stick it to my fridge as a reminder.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 07/03/2018 19:28

I've been using them for years and the drivers are invariably polite, punctual and helpful. Missing items or substitutions are very rare, I can't remember the last time I had either.

candlefloozy · 07/03/2018 20:35

I go between ocado and Morrison's. I mainly shop at Morrison's but if they don't have a delivery slot I want then I use ocado. Like I have today! I personally rate them the same as Morrison's. Though this week they've been sold out of a lot of the regular stuff I want to buy.
Heyve given me free delivery over shops of £40. I do rate them but they're equal to Morrison's in my eyes.

oigetoffmycheese · 07/03/2018 20:46

I 💖 Ocado. Just go for it. Life changing.

Hillbillyhotel · 07/03/2018 20:49

Second what everybody else has said and also-they sort the receipt by expiry date. That in itself amazes me! Oh,also,if you give them back the carrier bags from a previous shop they’ll give you the money back from them.

Nanasueathome · 07/03/2018 20:54

I alternate between Waitrose and Ocado
I have a free smart pass with Ocado at the moment (Waitrose is free delivery anyway)
I received an email after my Ocado shop last week advising I had saved almost £4 by shopping with them in comparison to Tesco prices...so all good there
They delivered in the snow on Saturday morning, within the 1 hour time slot
Very little by way of substitutions...I actually cannot recall ever having any item substituted
As they select from a centralised warehouse, no store involved, the dates are always very good
Quality is really good too
Thoroughly recommend

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/03/2018 21:00

I love Ocado.
they price match and last week I got £5.00 off because my shop was not cheaper than Tesco.

Have had the occasional breakage or problem and they respond immediately...(when you tweet it is instantaneously!!)
One caution is sometimes the fruit is not shall I say not necessarily what I would have selected.
But I looooove it.

Also makes me organised-I meal plan a bit and just order what I need
for that particular meal with less impulse.

Also Alexa can top up shopping. Which is a mixed blessing as DC keep adding cheese-which they find hilarious.

No I do not work for Ocado Wink

greenlanes · 08/03/2018 00:05

Their Chief Executive attended the Presidents Club dinner in January 2018 in a "personal capacity". Ocado have chosen to say nothing. Their Social Responsibility statement talks about treating employees with respect - I guess that doesnt include employees from other companies. So sadly despite the staff of Ocado being 1st class in most respects I no longer use them. I really believe in tone from the top and senior management needing to be accountable for their actions.

AuntyElle · 08/03/2018 08:30

That is really disappointing greenlanes.

orangesticker · 08/03/2018 12:00

Love the large range of foods - even more unusual stuff. I have never received a payment for the price comparison in the whole six months i've been shopping with them - have they really been cheaper every week?
