Terrified of my instant pot!

QueenOfIce · 24/02/2018 11:37

Saw how people raved about them, I'm inherently rather lazy when it comes to cooking as I don't enjoy it.

However I do cook daily and prefer healthier foods, bought us an IP and now I am at a loss, the fb group confuses me, there's buttons I don't understand and I don't want to mess up meals.

Can someone give me a couple of fail safe recipes that I can try please?

Have you looked at these OP?

instantpot.com/faq/getting-started-instant-pot/#how-to-

Soup is really easy once you've figured out the buttons and stuff.

One bag of fresh soup mix plus stock. Cook for 5 minutes at pressure. VOILA.

Bitsy1968 · 25/02/2018 11:40

I'm with you, OP. I got mine before Christmas and it's never been out of the box. I took one look at the massive instruction book, had heart palpitations and put it aside to deal with later. Still not happened...

QueenOfIce · 25/02/2018 14:35

I've passed mine on to db, I'll let him figure it out first!!

Not sure on meat, but for all my soups I hit soup setting 15 mins, for chilli I hit chilli 20 mins, for boiling spuds I hit pressure 10. Very easy when you have tried a few things, just keep a word doc on computer keep adding to it.

Red, you genius! I could do a chart like that, easy peasy. I may just get it out of the box tomorrow....

simpson · 26/02/2018 16:22

I love mine and use it about 3 or 4 times a week. Current favourite meal is spaghetti and meatballs.

Only meal I didn’t like was beef stroganoff but the kids hoovered it up so maybe it was personal taste.

I don’t use the preset buttons and just tend to put things on at high pressure manually.

WhyBeDennyDifferent · 26/02/2018 16:25

I’m terrified of mine too. Shoved it under the stairs.

QueenOfIce · 26/02/2018 16:38

Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for the timings Red very helpful.

If you're not going to use it I'd stick it on eBay. They've been out of stock in the UK for months and demand is crazy. I love mine or I'd be tempted😂

QueenOfIce · 27/02/2018 10:23

My brother now has it and is doing wizard things with it, now I'm jealous Grin

Demand it back! Grin

Bitsy1968 · 27/02/2018 18:24

I've just used mine, for the very first time. Cooked some chickpeas to make a stew with, instead of opening a tin. It's actually not as terrifying as I originally thought.

QueenOfIce · 28/02/2018 11:53

Bitsy are you now a convert? When are they back in stock seems db is really enjoying his new found no prep cooking so I shall need to source another!

Is an instant pot the same as a pressure cooker ? I love mine , I just bung stuff in and lovely food comes out .. genius!

Neganforever · 28/02/2018 11:59

Don't be. Nothing to be scared of, I bloody love mine and use it almost every day. It's the only kitchen appliance I can't live without.

If you like rice, try this to break your IP in: www.hippressurecooking.com/easy-pressure-cooker-steamed-rice/

High pressure for 3 mins, turn off, leave for 10 minutes, perfect rice.

Bitsy1968 · 28/02/2018 12:05

@QueenOfice I'm not sure I'd call myself a total convert yet, but the chickpeas were fab. I made a middle eastern spiced stew with them. adding sweet potatoes, carrots and brocolli and we scoffed half the loaf I'd baked that morning with it. I'm feeling it in terms of cooking pulses. Cans aren't massively expensive but I like the idea of just cooking the handful of pulses we need.

Today I've got chicken thighs defrosting so I'm off to look for recipes now..

CoperCabana · 28/02/2018 12:21

I was scared for ages and then watched a YouTube of someone cooking something that really helped.

I loves mine!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 28/02/2018 14:01

I love mine but I have to say I still find rice easier on the hob, mibe always sticks in the IP. The other night I stuck a gammon joint in while I took the DCs swimming, got it out and into the oven to glaze for 20 mins, spuds in the IP for 10 mins for mash, veg in for 2 mins while I mashed the spuds, job done.

sparklyllama · 28/02/2018 14:06

Where did you buy it? I need one (I think), and everywhere has been out of stock since Christmas.

sportyfool · 28/02/2018 15:37

I've got the pressure king pro( if it's the same thing) and I got it from amazon . They were out of stock everywhere over xmas .

Bitsy1968 · 01/03/2018 18:09

I got my Instantpot from Amazon, but I think I ordered it in October. Lakeland do a number of different brands and I was going to order one from there, but the Instantpot was on offer so I went with it.

sparklyllama · 04/03/2018 13:25

Many thanks, because I now believe that I DO need one Smile

simpson · 04/03/2018 19:40

I believe they are coming back in stock this monthSmile
