As the worst meal thread has lot of responses , thought I would start the best meal you have ever had

For me - got to be my mums home made Shepards pie or the first chicken burger and fries I had from KFC.

Some amazing fish in a little restaurant in queenstown nz. We had been travelling for 36 hours, from heatwave in the UK to mid winter in nz and we were tired and disoriented. It was amazing.

The cheese sandwich I had after dd was born I puked it up about 10 minutes later

Tiger prawns on the beach in Australia.

In Bruges, my first trip away without baby. I had beef carpaccio to start, then roasted duck with orange, vegetables and tiny potato croquettes. White and milk chocolate mousse for dessert.

Now I'm hungry.

A braised beef dish on honeymoon in Mexico in a 5 star restaurant. It was amazing. However DH had sunstroke and almost passed out straight after the main course so had to go back to our hotel.

Or the steak at our local steak restaurant. With fries, tempura veg and slaw. Or horseradish mash and buttered veg. Every time it's amazing but the first time was the most incredible.

Childhood summer holidays, family meals in my grandparents' house. We children had the freedom to come and go as we pleased, there were lots of children and lots of fun places to hang out, hide away, play.. and all the kids got on so well. Such happy times. In the evenings we used to have a big family dinner in the garden surrounded by the sweet aroma of roses and lots of other flowers that i don't know the names of. Then grown ups used to stay and chat all night, and i used to stay and listened to their conversations with fascination, whilst at the same time, attending to the needs of my dolls in my arm. I loved ALL the meals there. Everything tasted delicious there.

My mum's casseroles and pies are legendary too. Unfortunately she is too old and fragile now to cook anything.

And lastly a very simple pilau rice ( served as side dish to grilled chicken we had ) in Niagara Falls of all places, with DH. We had the day trip from Toronto, the trip had the lunch included. It was open buffet style lunch and we both chosen rice with chicken (or chicken with rice). I still remember how perfect and delicious it was. Strange really. I suppose we were expecting plasticky, plain boiled cardboard tasting rice but it had the taste of succulent fresh chicken. The real deal. Unexpectedly. Funny really.

The first time I ever ate Thai. It was a pad Thai with my then new boyfriend. Ode moved to London from the northwest and had never in all my days tasted something as exotic and fragrant as that dish (it was nearly 30 years ago for context).

I can still remember the taste now.

Steak in Argentina!

best ever. Served with crisp salad and chips, and a huge glass of Malbec

An amazing tomatoey pomodoro pasta from Bella Italia, with lots of Parmesan and a smidgen of salt. Oh no I'm hungry now....

I had a seafood platter served in the garden of a little restaurant on Sark. I think it was the atmosphere of the place as well, but the fish was excellent and fresh. Very simple and served with a salad and some bread and butter.

This thread is making my mouth water.

Everything on the Sat Bains menu.

A spicy pasta pescatore in an Italian restaurant in Kyoto. The most delicious pasta dish I've ever eaten.

The first lobster I ever ate. Dad stalked it for days under rocks on the beach at Old Hunstanton before finally managing to catch it. We were used to eating mussels, tiny shrimp and plaice but the lobster was a totally new experience. Still better than any I've ever had.

Bucatini Bologna’s from Pasta Romana in Leeds.

An old Italian style cafe ran by Marco Pierre Whites grandmother, Gilda.

The best pasta in the world ! I go back every time I visit my family.

French resturant on wedding night. Had proper onion soup for the first time and roasted duck that just fell apart with dauphenoise (sp?) potatoes and orange sauce.

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/02/2018 19:55

Scampi and chips in a pub on the Coigach peninsular. The scampi were enormous langoustines and were amazing. There was a howling storm outside but food, great beer and a band inside.
Or maybe the stirfry that came in a laquered chest of drawers at the Hemple many years ago.

Tuna Pasta bake - can't beat it.

40 years when I was 12 I went on a school trip to a little seaside town in Brittany. The hotel we stayed at made absolutely no concession to a bunch of fussy Welsh kids raised on meat and two veg.

We had croissants and delicious French bread for breakfast, lovely salads and cheese for lunch. And every night for dinner we had the most amazing selection of fresh fish and seafood. It absolutely blew my mind.

The best single meal I have had was in a Carribbean restaurant in Dalston in the early nineties.
